Calvary Baptist Church's Mission Statement

To glorify the Lord, show love to all people, and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Calvary Baptist Church's Vision Statement

To be a unified fellowship of believers that knows God intimately, through an enduring relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, worshipping the almighty God in spirit & truth, studying the Bible as the inspired word of God, praying fervently without ceasing, walking in the power of the Holy Spirit, joyfully sharing the good news of God’s love in word and deed, that all may come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

“Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will show you to whom he is like; he is like a man who built a house, and dug deep, and laid the foundation on a rock; and when a flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon the house, and could not shake it; for it was founded upon a rock” (Luke 6:47-48). Claiming this truth, a small group of Christians gathered on Sunday evening, September 27, 1985, at the home of Robert and Barbara Martin. With a spirit of love, unity and excitement, they purposed in their hearts a commitment to faith to build a church for God’s glory.

The first service consisted of worship and business. Charles (Buddy) Carter was called as pastor. Deacons were elected and committees were appointed. The church immediately organized Sunday School, Church Training, Brotherhood, Woman’s Missionary Union, and choir for all ages.

During the following week, the “Old Pontiac Building” on East McCloy Street, Monticello, was rented for use as a temporary meeting place. Soon afterwards, the Chamber of Commerce building across the street was rented for additional Sunday School space.

In less than one year, three acres of land were purchased for a new church site. The new building was completed in November, 1986. Increasing membership led to the addition of a new wing in 1987, and the building of a Worship and Family Life Center in 1996.

The Lord has taken little and multiplied it many times over, so much that we stand amazed at His accomplishments. To God be the glory, great things He has done!
